What they have in common
Both are laminated architectural shingles: two layers bonded together to create depth and a shadow line. Both go over the same system underneath, and that system matters more than either of them. Ice and water barrier in the valleys and around penetrations, synthetic underlayment across the field, starter strip at the eaves and rakes, and hip and ridge cap over a ridge vent.

Thicker, pre-bent shingles that cover the very peak where two roof slopes meet.
Why it matters
It seals the most exposed line on your roof and finishes it off cleanly.
If it's done wrong
Cutting up regular 3-tab shingles as 'ridge cap' (a common shortcut) cracks and leaks years early.
Where they differ
- Color. This is the real difference for most homeowners. Landmark's blends run differently from Timberline's, and a color that looks right on a white board-and-batten house can look wrong on red brick. Preview both before deciding.
- Availability. Both are well stocked locally, which is not true of every shingle, and it is why we quote these two rather than something more exotic.
